Accelerus Group Training Course Content

These are hands-on courses conducted each term, with a maximum of 20 attendees. Training courses are designed to give users an understanding of how to set up and maintain Accelerus, with a focus on efficient use. They include hands-on practise of the material covered.

Note that courses offered will vary from term to term and state to state.

Attendees must bring their own laptop computer and it is recommended that they:

  • Have an understanding of the report requirements of their school.
  • Read any pre-requisite material prior to the course in order to get the most out of the training session.
  • Meet the pre-requisites for the course.
  • Ensure that all required programs are installed and working prior to the course.
  • Bring a mouse if they are unused to working with a laptop trackpad.

Administrator Fundamentals

This course is for report coordinators who are new to the Accelerus report coordinator role, where a school is already using Accelerus. New Accelerus schools should contact Accelerus Support about on-site training and setup for their school.

Both days must be attended by each person.

It is expected that new report coordinators also attend the Student Report Production course after attending this course.

Pre-requistes:

Attendees must have a good knowledge of general computer practices, including file management. Experience with database systems and Excel are a distinct advantage.

Content:

  • An overview of Accelerus, including installation and system requirements
  • Becoming familiar with the user interface
  • Customising your school's settings
  • Security and permission issues
  • Understanding and managing the different records or entities in Accelerus
  • Importing data into Accelerus
  • Setting up and managing assessment items
  • Setting up for the use of offline files
  • Victoria only: Configuring and using Quick Setup for AusVELS reports

Student Report Production

This course is for those who are new to the Accelerus report coordinator role and who will be involved in report template creation, editing or printing. This course is usually attended in conjunction with the Accelerus Administrator Fundamentals course, in order that new report coordinators have knowledge and skills associated with the whole assessment and reporting processes in Accelerus.

Pre-requisites:

Attendance at an Administrator Fundamentals course or equivalent on-site training or experience in setting up Accelerus, is required for this course.

A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word 2010 or later versions is essential.

Content:

  • Understanding and setting up Report Runs
  • Determining the portion and slot requirements for a report run
  • Understanding the usage of different types of template
  • Setting up templates, including inserting report fields
  • Template modification
  • Report printing processes and options
  • Copying report runs, eg across semesters or years
  • Archiving reports

Accelerus Goals Management Setup for Special Schools

This two day course is for special schools who have been using Accelerus and the Goals Management System for at least one report cycle, focusing on setting up for the new year. The course will be hands-on, with schools actually working live on their school's database to actually setup and be ready for teachers to begin adding their ILP goals and other data.

Aims and Content:

The course, aiming to increase the knowledge and skills of the Accelerus coordinators at managing their Goals system, will cover:

  • Victorian Curriculum and reporting requirements which have changed again for 2017.
  • Customisation of Victorian Curriculum preliminary goal banks, and importing these into Accelerus.
  • Setting up Accelerus for the new year, including importing data, creating subjects, classes and enrolments.
  • Setting up the ILP and semester report runs.
  • Setting up SSG minutes and parent contact records
  • The use of Quick Setup so that schools can fulfill their requirements for importing Victorian Curriculum progression points into CASES21/Chess.

Pre-requisites:

  • Attendance at an Administrator Fundamentals course or equivalent on-site training or experience in setting up Accelerus and the Goals Management System
  • An understanding of your school's setup and curriculum requirements
  • Prior preparation of the necessary files and information required to setup for the new year at the course, details of which will be forwarded to participants prior to the course.

Analysing your Accelerus data

The use of the Analyser component of Accelerus is for experienced Accelerus users who wish to extract, manipulate and track data in their school's database.

This course will no longer be conducted as a group training course. Our experience has shown that group analyser training is less effective than personalised on-line training working with you using your school's database. By conducting an on-line session we can train up to three attendees from your school and in the process create simple analyses according to your needs. We could conduct a series of short 2 hour or ½ day sessions based on your ability and needs. The cost for such on-line sessions is charged at our standard hourly rate. Please contact the Help Desk to discuss and arrange mutually suitable dates and times.

Pre-requisistes:

Attendance at an Administrator Fundamentals course or equivalent on-site training or experience in setting up Accelerus, is required for this course.

Attendees must be familiar with their school's Accelerus database structure and the way it has been set up - its academic cycles, coding systems, assessment items, etc.

Content:

Course content is determined according to your requirements and ability. It may cover such things as:

  • Understanding the concepts and principles of the Analyser
  • Setting up Source operator restriction
  • Setting up formulae and defining expressions in advanced operators
  • Aggregating data for students, subjects, years, etc
  • Exporting data for other uses
  • Designing print outputs: grouping, formatting, user-defined fields, etc
  • Extracting and tracking data across years
  • Different methods of running analyses, including setting up of parameters to be used by those with Run Only privileges

Setting up Accelerus for the New Year

This course is designed for existing Accelerus report coordinators. It runs through the steps and processes that must be followed to set up Accelerus for a new year, where schools have already used Accelerus for at least one report run.

It is also a handy refresher course for more experienced administrators.

This course will no longer be conducted as a group training course. Our experience has shown that group training when setting up Accelerus for a New Year is less effective than personalised on-line training working with you using your school's database. By conducting an on-line session we can train up to three attendees from your school and in the process setup the New Year so that at the conclusion of the on-line session the majority of your setup will have been completed. We could conduct a series of short 2 hour or ½ day sessions based on your ability and needs. The cost for such on-line sessions is charged at our standard hourly rate. Please contact the Help Desk to discuss and arrange mutually suitable dates and times.

Pre-requisites:

Attendees must have attended an Administrator Fundamentals or equivalent course, and have experience in setting up Accelerus for at least one report run. Prior to the session attendees will be advised of the data, files and information needed to conduct an effective session. If you do not have these prepared beforehand, your training session may take longer, hence incurring additional costs.

  • Backing up Accelerus
  • Checking and modifying your school settings and security
  • Using the Rollover window effectively and efficiently
  • Importing data for the new year
  • Making use of previous cycle's templates
  • Modifying your setup to work best for your current needs
  • Efficient work practices
  • Victoria only: Copying Quick Setup settings and customised templates

Customising Accelerus Victorian Curriculum Templates using RTF Files

This course is for Victorian schools using the Quick Setup features in Accelerus to set up their Victorian Curriculum reports who want to produce modified Victorian Curriculum templates where consistent changes are needed across all of their subject reports, eg additional work habits, the inclusion of assessment tasks, removal of the legend, etc.

It is also aimed at schools who already have RTF files for their AusVELS/VELS templates and need to upgrade these for the Victorian Curriculum.

This course will no longer be conducted as a group training course. Our experience has shown that group training when Customising Accelerus Victorian Curriculum Templates using RTF Files is less effective than personalised on-line training working with you using your school's database and templates. By conducting an on-line session we can train up to three attendees from your school and in the process customise your RTF files so that at the conclusion of the on-line session the majority of your files will have been customised. We could conduct a series of short 2 hour or ½ day sessions based on your ability and needs. The cost for such on-line sessions is charged at our standard hourly rate. Pre-requisites:

Attendees must have attended the Administrator Fundamentals course or equivalent, and have experience in using the Quick Setup features of Accelerus.

  • Identifying RTF files that require customisation in different situations

  • Setting up semester placeholders
  • Example customisations

Setting up Accelerus for Semester 2

Designed for existing Accelerus report coordinators, this course runs through the steps and processes that must be followed to set up Accelerus for a new semester, where schools have already used Accelerus for at least semester one of that year. It is also a handy refresher course for more experienced administrators.

This course will no longer be conducted as a group training course. Our experience has shown that group training when setting up Semester 2 is less effective than personalised on-line training working with you using your school's database. By conducting an on-line session we can train up to three attendees from your school and in the process setup Semester 2 so that at the conclusion of the on-line session the majority of your semester 2 setup will have been completed. We could conduct a series of short 2 hour or ½ day sessions based on your ability and needs. The cost for such on-line sessions is charged at our standard hourly rate. Please contact the Help Desk to discuss and arrange mutually suitable dates and times.

Pre-requisites:

Attendees must have attended an Administrator Fundamentals or equivalent course, and have experience in setting up Accelerus for at least one report run.   • Modifying school settings, including moving from annual to semester cycles

  • Victoria only: Copying quick setup settings and customised templates

Reporting options for the Victorian Curriculum in 2017

The seminar is designed for existing Accelerus report coordinators, it outlines the 2017 reporting requirements as stipulated by DET and CECV and the changes to Accelerus to satisfy these requirements. This is recommended for Victorian Government, Independent and Catholic schools.
Note: As this is a Seminar a computer is not required.

Pre-requisites:

It is preferable that attendees have undertaken an Administrator Fundamentals or equivalent course, or have experience in setting up Accelerus.

  • What must/can be reported on in 2017
  • DET and CECV preferences and requirements
  • School and Parental requirements
  • Victorian Curriculum in 2017
  • Implications on prior scores when moving from AusVELS to Victorian Curriculum
  • Importing and exporting results data from your Administration program / CASES21 / CHESS
  • Scales used for reporting (Progression point / EAL / A-D)
  • What Strands can be reported on and their maximum and minimum values
  • Flexibililty in reporting including reporting to the Curriculum Area and/or Strand level
  • Choosing from various Accelerus preconfigured options or School customised options
